Welcome Message from Mr. Kern
Welcome to Brandywine Elementary!
I am very proud to be joining the Brandywine School family as the principal! I am excited to be a part of such an outstanding school and learning community, and to be “filling the shoes” of Mr. Miller! In addition to serving the Brandywine school community, I will also be assuming some responsibilities in the area of school accountability for the school corporation. Priority #1 will be the boys and girls at BWE!!
Each of the Southern Hancock Schools is a great place for kids in their pursuit of learning! I have developed an outstanding respect for the high expectations for excellence on the part of both staff and community. This strong partnership is critical to the success of our students and school. I encourage you to become an active partner in your child's learning!
I would like to share a little bit about me. For the past sixteen years, I have served as a principal in our school district: one year at Sugar Creek Elementary, and fifteen years at New Palestine Elementary. Prior to that I served as principal at Eden Elementary School and Waldron Elementary School. My wife is a retired kindergarten teacher, and we have two adult children, Ryan and Brittany. Both kids and their spouses are also teachers. They have blessed us with four grandchildren, one little girl, and three energetic boys! I have had many exciting opportunities during my professional career that I will cherish forever! These include working in the Southern Hancock Schools, participating in an international principal exchange program with Argentina during the 2012-13 school year, working with the Indiana Principal Leadership Academy, and serving as leader in both the state and national professional associations for elementary school principals!
Brandywine Elementary offers a variety of programs that enhance the wonderful instruction in our classrooms. We are large supporters of state academic competitions and also provide many opportunities for our students in the visual and performing arts. We also have exciting after-school programs to extend learning beyond the normal school day for our students. We are dedicated to setting high expectations for our students and helping students at all levels reach their best potential.
You should expect that your child/children will be challenged at an appropriate level that will stretch them academically. I challenge you to become involved in your child's school life by becoming active in our PTO, and/or volunteering on occasion at the school.
We pride ourselves as a school on good two-way communication with our families. Please take time to read our electronic communications from the office and your child's teacher. We are always available to answer any questions you may have regarding your child's school progress academically, socially and emotionally at Brandywine!
I look forward to working with you as we pursue excellence in CARING, LEARNING, and GROWING! AS GOOD AS WE ARE, WE WILL STRIVE TO BE EVEN BETTER…FOR THE KIDS…TOGETHER!
